Join me in improving the lives of those living with a rare chromosome 8p disorder, like our courageous daughter Nupur. We need friends like you to help us raise awareness of the disorder to find a cure.

Nupur, also called by other names as Nupi, Nuni, bunbun and many more, is a beautiful 22 year old daughter of ours. She is born with a rare genetic disorder in chromosome 8p. She is a super happy and blissful individual who lights up the room just with her smile. She is non verbal yet has found ways to communicate what she needs including her love for music. Nupie can also be michievious and give us all a good laugh.
For us parents it has been 22 years of experiencing shades of every emotion. There was initial sadness and grief that parents of differently abled children experience. But as we looked for answers, I came across a quote in the bible to the effect “god gives you what you need”. What did we “need” from Nupur with all her limitations? Nupur gave us a sense of purpose and mission that helped overcome many of the trials & tribulations of marriage. With her small victories, she gave us unimaginable joy. She is a happy child, who is in a place that most of us spend a lifetime searching for. I may never be able to express it well, but Nupur gives us far more than we ever will.
Yet, as parents we always strive for what is best for our children. We want Nupur to experience so much of life that typical folks take for granted. We want her to go to concerts, movies, drive a car, date, find her prince and maybe someday get married. In other words, we want a cure for Nupur’s genetic disorder.
In our quest for finding a cure for Nupur’s genetic condition, we came across Project 8p Foundation and the founder, Bina Maniar. Her dedicated team is doing incredible work. Project 8p 8p is striving to explore the frontiers of genetic research in hopes of finding treatment for disabilities afflicting children with 8p disorders. Nupur and Bina have personified the “audacity of hope”. A challenge so profound and daunting, it takes courage to believe in it. It is her unshakeable faith that has inspired so many of us to contribute to this endeavor.
We hope you join us in our gift to the Project 8p Foundation and this is an appeal to all well wishers. Who knows, finding a cure for this disorder may open the doors to so many others. Edge of one frontier just the beginning of the next …
